I was contacted last week by Lenehan Law regarding a Providian account that is many years old. The person who called was very "threatening" - we are going to start litigation on Monday - do you want the sheriff coming to work to serve you papers - well if you dont pay that is what is going to happen - we found you (through an old landlord - I might add) and we can find out all about you - and so on. I have never dealt with any type of collection agency and thought this was a little over the top so I started doing some research and found out some interesting things about this place. A little background on the account - this was a credit card that when I got divorced I couldn't pay - I contacted Providian when I could pay and they told me that it had been written off and they couldn't take a payment for it. Now this!!! I read Bud Hibb's comments about Lenehan and was wondering if anyone else had been contacted by them and what was their outcome. Hibb's website said that there are no attorneys working for them but the man who contacted me - Frank Santiago - identified himself as an attorney. I asked him for some type of information about this - he wanted me to give him my address which I didn't. Now they are calling my place of employment every few hours trying to get a fax number. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!! By the way, I live in Florida.
