You can also get some assistance from the library. Nolo and others have self help books - with forms- that are state specific. You should also go to the law library at the courthouse and ask them to help you look at the rules of appellate procedure. You are correct..the process is complex and intimidating. Some lawyers won't even do it themselves. You might want to make yourself a checklist- from the rules of civil procedure so you make sure that you satisfy each requirement. Good luck to you
