I havnt paid my credit card bills in 6 months

Ok First off I live in Kansas. I am a not married and have no kids. I am unemployed at the time. I have two credit cards that I havnt payed in like 6 months. They have been calling me for over 4 months. I have heard from friends that didnt pay their bills that alot of the time they wont come after you. I racked up over 7 tousand dollars while I was in college. What are my options and being that I dont have the means to pay the bills and really nothing in my bank, will they come after me being I have nothing to give. How long before they have to quit witht the calls and bills in the mail. Also is it smart to change my cell # so they cant get in contact with me
