I am not a collection agent nor have I ever been in the position to have to call and try and collect on a debt. ON a personal level, I have had only one experience with a collection agent that was related to our personal accounts. The other dealings with collection agents have all been calling for my brother-in-law and those agents were plain nasty because they didn't believe that he didn't live there and they thought I was his wife. Many of the people on here have had lots and I mean lots of negative experiences. They have had accounts raided, they have been threatened. It is often hard to forget that collectors are people doing their job and it is hard for collectors to realize that a debtor may be doing the best that they can and that they can give no more. There will be new bankruptcy laws in place that will make it harder for people to go bankrupt? What will happen then? Many of those who would have gone bankrupt and are forced out of it by the new laws will end up simply not paying and avoiding you because they can't solve their problems. I have been visiting this board as well and you are right. There are a lot of stereotypes and mind reading here. Only pixels. We may all be in a bad situation. This forum has helped me lots because it has made me more determined than ever to get myself out of debt and stay out of debt because I see a lot of people in big trouble and not the kind of trouble I want or need.
