Trying to remone old paid collection account

I had a phone bill with Bell South that I refused to pay in 1998 because of incorrect billing. This was turned over to a CA (Frost Arnett Company) and I had to pay them before I could get my phone reconnected. Of course it is showing as a paid collection account. Is there anyway that I can get this removed or do I just have to wait out the 7 year period.
