If you file bk, the judgment doesn't matter. If I were in your shoes (I was at one time) I would wait it out, have my bk filing ready (just list all assets, creditors, addresses, amounts)and then hunker down. If I got served, I would fight it. If they won, I would file.

Then repairing/rebuilding becomes the focus.

Since yours are charged off, you would be rebuilding from scratch. In some cases, where a person can see it coming, it's possible to file before any accounts default, keep some credit, and the rebuilding is easier.

I think it depends on the situation, the individual's knowledge, and how much effort a person is willing to put out.

As far as Discover - who knows why a company is like this? From my online experiences helping others, I can tell you they are just plain mean. They want their money, and if they can't get it, they will make you pay any way they can.

One good thing about all the credit sites on the internet is that you can figure out who to deal with and who to stay way from.

First USA (now bank one) was treating customers like dirt, deliberately posting payments late, jacking rates, you name it. Word got around, because of people comparing notes on the internet - they ended up selling out. Now Bank One is trying everything in the book to get customers. Smart consumers won't go near them.

Same thing with Sears - I am getting ready to buy some appliances - I will use somebody's 0% financing - but it won't be Sears!!! I know what they do. Won't touch it.
