You file the complaint with the FTC, your stat'es attorney general, the BBB and the ACA (American Collectors Association) - surprisingly, the ACA has become our friend - they do enforce an ethical standard with members.

You can check and see if the CA is legal in your state, if not, they will get a big fine.

If you have a good paper trail, you can sue them for statutory fines for FDCPA or FCRA violations.

If it caused you damages (closing on the house of your dreams fell through) you can take your stuff to a lawyer and sue them for real money.
