Being sued!

Hi.
I just got served papers.
I took out a loan five years ago. It was a loan through a store, but now I've been seeing some stuff that calls it a student loan (in case that makes a difference).
It was just over five years ago (10/98) that I made the last payment.
It's for $4500+ and I *can't* pay it.
I am flat broke and now have a wife and four kids that I didn't back then.
BTW, I live in Arizona.
I'm guessing I should get a lawyer, but what after that?
