Probably just a CA faulty "skip trace". If the CA cannot find the debtor through regular means, they just search the world through a skip trace company and just write everyone who might be a match to see if they get any bites.

I had the same thing happen to me. Same name and same city as the guilty party, and through the skip trace company they got my address, phone number and SSN.

What I ended up doing was contacting them, getting copies of the cancelled check that had bounced, contacted the bank for the check, and established it wasn't me, and then wrote the CA back CRRR explaining it was not me and the evidence backing it up, including info from the bank. They left me alone.
