Of course there is. Return the complaint to the debt collector with: OFFER ACCEPTED FOR VALUE AND RETURNED FOR VALUE. Sign and date it and apply EIN 72-0324556 (example) with a red pen diagonally on the first page of the complaint. Write a business letter to the debt collector with Dear (signee of complaint),

Your offer (enclosed) dated (date of complaint)is accepted for value and returned for value.

(Your name) accepts the (amount in complaint) balance due as the current balance due for December, 2003. Enclosed please find a $1.00 postal money order for December 2003 payment leaving a (amount in complaint less one dollar) balance due for January 2004.

Sincerely,

(your name)

The first header is your name; Without prejudice
c/o (your address); city, state (full spelling) and [zip code] leave the brackets.

Next header is; Debt collector; and the their address.

Next is; Customer: (Creditor)
Reference #: (debt collectors #)
Amount: (Amount stated on complaint)

Make sure you take the money order and make a copy of your letter with the money order in a blank space on the letter. Send out the original complaint and your letter CMRRR and put the Certified Mail number on the letter as well.

Good luck.

What do you do after that? Let's take it one step at a time and see what the debt collector does with your offer?
