My website, linked below, has a lot of informmation and sample letters available. Check the link on "validation letters".

In general, if the debt IS YOURS, and you are within SOL, you SHOULD NOT try to "validate".

If you are beyond SOL you can use the SOL letter.

If you are being harrassed, you can send a limited cease and desist, (no telephone calls, mail only)

You should opt out before doing anything else.
