"Gone to Texas" is a historic euphemism for someone who skips out on his debts. Texas was established as a historic debtor haven for Easterners carrying suitcases filled with cash skipping out on their creditors in the 1800's. It retains its historic debtor friendly status with very generous exemptions. I had a collector call and leave a message once. He thought the phone line had gone dead and was talking to a fellow collector in the background. He said something along the lines of how he hated calling Texas accounts since you can't get anybody in Texas to pay, because there is nothing they can do to get anything. Priceless.
