Recently I wrote a check to pay for some work done on my car at Pep Boys. My check was declined and my husband had to use his credit card to pay for the work.
I was given Marlin Capital and their phone number to contact. After many tries I don't know if they are in business. No one answers. I don't have any information about what the problem is. Should I get a credit report to see if the problem shows up there?
I was the victim of identity theft in the fall of 2001 and the companies I contacted said I would not be responsible for debt run up on my name. The person had used my information, but gave a Post Office Box as an address. I contacted the police and the federal agency as well as the companies reporting my credit at that time. This problem is probably connected with this identity theft. How can I correct it. I'm afraid to write a check now. It's a humilating experience. Thanks for any advice.
