If your accounts are current, you should try to reach the "hardship" dept. of the CC companies to see if they can work out a reduced interest rate for you.Each CC company has it's own program for dealing with "settlements" depending on how much they are, etc. etc.

If you are in default already,it would depend on the status of your accounts. Were they charged off?Are they with a collection agency? If so, when were they defaulted and what State are you in?

"Settlement" letters( to the Original Creditors) are, in ,my opinion, NOT a good idea unless they are from a lawyer's office.
