I have been trying to give this lady advice and support. It is just too complicated for me, way over my head. Can you please offer some advice. She is trying to pay but they are still harrassing her. Thanks and Happy New Year.

First, let me say thanks. It helps to have someone to "talk" to. I owe a local hospital $1600 and they have just sent me to a collection agency. I tried to send them payments, but I was unemployed most of 2003 and just couldn't do it, plus they wanted $140 a month. I owe about $600 in back local taxes where I used to live. These date back to 2000 (filed in 2001) and part of 2001, filed in 2002. I filed bankruptcy in 2001. I got a letter from a debt collection attorney stating that the taxes I owe are $900+ which is not true, even with interest, etc., this is not the amount I owe. That is what I'm disputing. I expect a suit from this attorney. Again tried to make payments, but couldn't afford it. I got sued from an attorney allegedly representing a dentist to whom I owed $266. I posted about this before. I had started making payments when I was employed again. The debt was paid before I received the summons. My court date is 01/27/2004. I'm just going to go and present my receipts. I've communicated to the attorney in writing stating that this was paid hoping they'll drop the suit, but haven't heard anything yet. Another dentist I owe $188 and have made payment arrangements. These are really the only debts I have, but I can barely make enough to make ends meet when I'm working full time, let alone when I'm unemployed. Thanks again. "
