When did you make your last REGULAR on time payment to Cap1? Is this the ONLY account you have that has defaulted? You may wish to consider filing for BK if you have several defaulted accounts. It is hard to say what the collection agency will "settle" for. If it looks as if they will get the $$ out of you by filing a judgment and placing liens on your non-exempt property, or garnishing your pay, they will do so. I suggest, in the meantime, you take reasonable steps to protect yourself from having your bank accounts frozen. In general "debt counseling" companies are a scam and a waste of time and $$. The "good" ones are supported by the credit card industry, and the rest are frauds and ripoff artists.
