I just went through some paperwork and found the w2's from those years. My husband and I were married then, except he left the taxes and finances up to me. Before we were married, his mom always filed his, so he was not used to filing on his own. Anyway, I found the forms online at the IRS website. It looks as if we had owed about 600 dollars in 97 and 60 in 98. We only use the standard exemptions. So, we completed the forms. I guess I will drop them off at the attorney's. the letter from the IRS asked us to send the forms, if we have them, to US attorney's office. But what do I tell my attorney? And the funny thing is, the IRS has refunded money to the student loans we owed in amounts accumulating around 300 dollars over the past few years. So, how they never caught this, beats me. How will this all affect my chapter 13? The only debts that have to be paid back are my state and federal taxes. Everything else is unsecured. We filed Chapter 13 to keep a school loan garnishment off our back for a little while. We are paying less into the plan than 25 percent of our income.
