What happens if you don't pay your credit cards and skip town?

Hello!

We are seeking info on a recent situation that we've come into.

My brother recently maxed-out 2 credit cards - one with MBNA and one with a local credit union - and split town. We knew that he was moving abroad, but we didn't know about the business with the cc's until a few days ago when he let us know of his "plan". He said that he charged around $7000.

I do know that our mother was an authorized user on both of them, but he said that he had called up and had her removed. If memory serves correct, I think she was his cosigner on one, but he claims that she was removed all the same.

My question is - what is in store for him and my folks? He was living with them before he left, and that address is the last address of record, as is the phone number. I am not too concerned with my wife and I, as we had no dealings with him from a financial point of view.

I know that they are going to get bombarded with phone calls and the like, but I keep hearing stories about lawsuits, judgements, warrants - etc. I would hate to see him get arrested over something like this. Likewise, the thought of our folks getting tangled up in this affair makes me angry as well...

Any info would be appreciated!
