I suggest you send the validation,dispute, cease & desist letter. That way you will know what you are dealing with.

I doubt very much that you had a signed contract, as since it was a lawyer, he would have long since sued you if he had ANY kind of proveable claim.

If you send the SOL letter, which you can do if you wish AFTER they validate (if they validate) yo are saying that you know what they are referring to. If you send the validation letter FIRST,and they have NO documentation to backup their claim, other than perhaps a copy of the billing, then you can easily send the SOL letter based on THEIR records, ( as you, of course, have no knowledge or memory or records of this transaction yourslf)
