If that collection agency told your neighbor the nature of the call I would try to sue them for defamation or something along those lines.

Calling and asking for your number is one thing. Calling everybody on the block and telling them that you owe so and so money is not okay.

That's not a pride issue, either. That can lead to poor treatment by the neighbors, a bad reputation in town and even loss of work/opportunities in some cases.

This is serious business. Don't let them get away with this if that's what they did.

This is another great reason why you should never receive your mail at your home address.
