Hi goingbroke,
If your credit card company already sold your account to the collection agency, you might as well let it charge off. I'm sure your credit report is already tainted by not paying your payments for a few months. A charge off will not worsen your credit much more than what it probably is already. I work for a mortgage lender and we get customers with charge offs all day long, and they have no problem getting a loan from us. I suggest you let this one go, and keep your other accounts in good standings. Your credit report will improve over time. There are so many things that can hurt your credit, even pulling your credit lowers your score. So, try to minimize applying for credit, pay all your bills on time, and your score will improve in no time.
