Discover settlement payment plan?

Does anyone have any experience in settling with Discover? I owe just under 3k and want to try to set up a payment plan with the year total being under 1k, but increasing after a year. I will not be working for at least some of the year, if not more. Does anyone have some advice as to what to say and how to get this?
