I'm not a lawyer, but I've heard enough from people who have been through this - if you show up (or file an answer), saying you want proof the debt si yours, they do not get a judgment automatically. If you do nothing - they do get a judgment automatically. As I said, they are assuming you will not do anything. They will not be prepared. Others here on this board have done it - you can do it!! They know you're scared of court. Just play dumb. "Your honor, I don't know if this is mine or not - I need some proof before I pay anyone anything." You don't need to know the law, you don't have to be fancy. It works. They will not have any proff with them, and they won't want to bother with you. They are filing against a LOT of people all at once, they know they will not show up. They didn't single you out. They won't be expecting you. They won't have any proof of anything. When you see that lawyer you will get a whole new point of view. You should hear the stories of those lawyers. Drunk with morning-after shakes, can't even talk right, can't hold the paper still. Don't let them scare you. they say "do you owe this money?" and you say "I don't know. I think I should have some proof before I pay anyone." It's that easy. That's why they hate us -we tell you how it really is. Linda
