If the debt is more than you can pay (sounds that way) go see a good attorney who handles bk's along with other things. Do not go to one of the big bk legal outfits that advertises on TV etc. You want a good general practice attorney who does other things like real estate closings, etc.

If the lawyer makes you undcomfortable, is judgmental, etc, leave and find another one. They have their biases also.

I don't know IL law, so I won't comment on your house, assets what you can keep etc, but a good attorney can tell you exactly where you stand.
