No state that has a statute of limitations permits a judgment to be obtained if the SOL has run. This doesn't stop someone from filing the lawsuit because you need to assert the SOL as a defense and then file a motion to dismiss the lawsuit on the basis of the SOL. NJ SOL is generally 6 years.
