I was laid off 2 years ago, long story short.. I'm running short on money now. I'm doing a bit of contract work, so I have some money...

I was paying off Providian as much as I could, but it was below the minimum payment (which they set at $1k after dropping my credit line below what I owed). But, apparently they charged me off to Cambece and his goons. Super!

I don't want to pay them. I was willing to pay them when I first spoke with them (when I was naieve), but they decided to threaten me instead. Now I am enpowered. But still fearful. I want to make them an offer to set my rating as "paid as requested" when I have the money, through Providian of course. The thing I'm worried about for the time being is being sued. Is there any way to avoid that? I owe $6,488 so I think I have a good chance of being taken to court. Any advice to someone who wants to own a house someday? Other than "pay cash", please. :)
