Well, what can happen is that some CA makes a bogus attempt to contact you to pay a debt. They mail the court notice to some address you used to have or they scam an address just so you receive nothing and cannot protest the action in court. Then they get the judgment and try to come after you.

You're doing the right thing. First get all of the paperwork from the court, in particular pay attention to the way service was accomplished. If it is bogus, that's the way to get the decision reversed.
