Hi, About 3 years ago I saw an add on the internet for an "interest reduction" program. I called Ameridebt and was given to a counselor who explained that the program would not be Consumer Credit Counseling, just help with reducing the interest rates on my cards. When I called my credit was fine, no past due bills or problems just high interest rates. The person assured me several times that I was not signing up for CCC and it would not affect my credit report/rating. Well, I bit and signed up. The first thing was the "voluntary contribution".. well, when I figured out how much I'd have to pay I told the counselor I would NOT pay it.. so he had me note that on the contract, initial it, and send the contract to him. Well, I sent the first payment as directed and 2 weeks later started getting phone calls from creditors saying they had received no payments. Well, after calling Ameridebt I found out they didn't even start working with the creditors until they received the payment and it would take a month to get the arrangements setup with the creditors. Well, it's a long story but they didn't answer corespondence sent by some of the creditors and I ended up with every account 30days past due, several 60 days and 2 90 days. I called them over and over and argued with them and was told all accounts would be "reaged" and brought current with no past due shown - that never happened. Also, one company marked my credit report as a CCC account. I have complained to the BBC - which took a year for a response which was basically nothing - Ameridebt refused to cooperate. I filed a complaint with the FTC and nothing. Do I have any recourse?? My credit report is still suffering with several of the past dues - I've had some of them removed but I still show a 60 and a 90 from this fiasco.. Any help would be appreciated.
