If you WERE going to be sued, it would be in Ill. where you live and work, (also has a 5 year SOL). You say the last time you paid was 2 and 1/2 years ago?? Was that to Discover on a current active charge account? Have you obtained a credit report recently? If not, I suggest you DON'T !! Unless you have someone at your old Iowa address who would mail it to you, or a trusted family member who could get it for you on line from a Iowa ISP address. The best way of cleaning up your credit, is unfortunately, to NOT settle, or pay the collection agencies. Despite all the rhetoric about validation, and pay for deletion etc. etc. the truth is, if you DON'T pay, and wait out the SOL and then start disputing the accounts, you can clean up your credit much faster and easier. Once you pay any CA a ¢ the rest of them (and there are probably others from your "school daze" ) will smell blood and come swarming out from under their rocks. If you HAVE recently obtained a credit report from your Ill. address, OPT OUT IMMEDIATELY . You have a slight edge, in that Ill.has some strict rule or collection agencies from out of State, so you may be able to wait it out safely.
