In Maryland, the judgment is good for 12 years and in Florida, a foreign judgment is good for 5 years and then has to be renewed. Before doing anything or responding, you need to find out if the Maryland Judgment has been entered against you in Florida and has been perfected. Some states do not allow certain kinds of judgments as in default judgments to be perfected and domesticated in their states. If the judgment has not been renewed in Maryland and that means contacting Maryland court where your judgment has resided and it has not been transferred to Florida, they are out of luck and you can send them a cease and desist letter notifying them that the statute of limitations has passed. It is a matter of making a few phone calls.

NOw I heard something about Camco and I am not sure if I am right on this one so I am hoping that Scott who normally deals with CAMCO will jump in on this one. I heard that CAMCO themselves do not sue because they don't have a legal team. I don't remember where I heard this one or I am not sure if it is true or not, but a lot of CAMCO's dealings is that they buy up out of statute debt and pose as lawyers, attorneys etc to shake down people.

You might want to check in with the bar association of the state the attorney who wrote you is in and find out if they have a license to practice and then find out if they have a license to collect in Florida. CAMCO is notorious for this.
