Lady is right. They signed a contract, probably after having been schmoozed by some sales person who totally misrepresented the actual process and totally downplayed the credit consequences. I speak from experience - I fell into the same situation with this company, although I found out sooner that the money that was being charged wasn't going to the debtors. By then, my credit was really a mess and I just went ahead and 'settled' the debt. I'm absolutely sick about the whole thing and feel like an utter fool. Unfortunately, probably all they (and I) can do now is file a complaint about the company. It's my word against theirs how they verbally represented the process and they have a written contract signed by me. It is helpful to have websites like this talking about the company. I searched for info before I signed and I couldn't find any consumer complaints online. Spread the word.
