I'm writing in order to get some advice on how to deal with First Select. As a college freshman I had a Discover card that was charged off and taken over by First Select. When First Select contacted me, (with parental assistance) I paid off the card as a settlement for a lesser amount. Now, two years later, I have received a letter from an attorney claiming to represent Credigy Receivables, Inc. I have never received any mail from Credigy. I had made a settlement with First Select for an amount less than the total that I owed. It seems that Credigy is attempting to collect on what, if I'm remembering the numbers correctly, is the remainder of what I would have owed if 1st Select had not settled. Like an idiot, I have no record of my payment, except that my credit report says that the First Select account has been current since September 2001. That's the month that I paid it. The notes on my credit report don't say that I paid it, but instead they say that the account has been transferred or sold. I'm 23, I'm scared, and I'm screwed. Please help.
