You raise some fine points. These termites have no right to check on your relatives' assets in hope of shaking money from you. This is a fishing expedition, costly to perform and in terms of fines.
Send these putrid bugs a Gramm - Leach - Bliley Law notice. Sections 6801 - 6810 forbid sharing info by those with whom you have a fiduciary relationship without your permission, which they do not have. Penalties can be severe.
Cost for finding bank accounts in one state for one individual can be at least a couple hundred dollars. To find brokerage accounts you spend at least a thousand for one name, one state. That's why CA leeches are just gassing off, something they do rather well to great profit.
Yes, it is frightening when predators make such threats. This writer found it frightening when one particularly vicious CA was threatening asset searches. Hopefully you have documented your fear, loss of sleep, lack of energy, and other detrimental effects including depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating and remembering to your physician. Important medical evidence.
After all, a 'collections professional' willing to spend well on asset searches will also be seen as capable of paying you damages.

Evidentially,

Keyser Soze
