I assumed credit card when he mentioned a CA. I think just about every student knows they can have federal student loans deferred. I had absolutely no problem at all with my studnet loan, nor did my children. I couldn't pay anything for over a year, then I could only pay much less than I should have been paying. If ever I got a little more money, I gave some to them. My loan is now paid off. I don't even put federal student loans in the same category as credit cards. They got the education which is a lifetime asset. I think they should pay, and with a smile and a thank you.
