If I had to gauge the level of risk in this situation, I would say it's pretty damned high. For a $30K debt? It's grotesquely high.

If it was my decision, I would ask myself, "How much money am I willing to give up?" I'd ask that because that's the amount of money I would leave in the account.

If you're willing to lose $2K to W & A, even if it's only temporarily, then leave the money in the account. If not, then take it out.

If you're concerned about covering checks you've already written, listen to me... they will bounce anyway if W & A freezes your account.

If it's a check covering situation, I'd contact the payees and let them know that I'm going to stop payment on their checks and send them guaranteed funds instead. Cover their banking fees right away if necessary to keep things on good terms. Stop payments look better than NSF or some other freakishness.
