CAMCO is trying to collect!

I have an old (very old - 1974) debt that the SOL has expired many times over. This "scamco" is trying to make this debt (Iwouldn't call it a debt now) current and collect on it. I have done a lot of "home work" on the procedures governing debts and their SOL. There has never been "any" judgements on this debt and the charge-off was in late 1976. Now, these (I'll be nice) guys come along saying I owe them money! The initial letter is dated December 17th and I intend to write a letter (RR - two days delivery)on Jan. 13th requesting validation of said debt followed by a procedual request from the FIRNISHER of this account (Midland credit Mgmt, Inc.)whom Scamco bought it from. Any other avenues I can persue?
