A big agreement with that. Cable companies have gone berserk. I signed up for basic cable and in order to not give them a ssn for a credit check I had to pay over $100 deposit. I had service close to a year and they wanted us to sign up for telephone service over the cable line. So we said sure, sign us up. Then they said they would have to do a credit check and what’s the ssn. We said you’ve already got over $100 deposit, we’ve never been late, the monthly phone bill is supposed to be less than $20, so what’s the deal? So they reply, they need $150 deposit to sign up for telephone if we don’t give them the ssn (so they can run a report and have it on file to destroy your credit if you miss a month’s payment) Anyway, they lost a potential phone customer that way. We didn’t give them the ssn, didn’t pay the $150 additional deposit, and kept the phone service with the local phone company. Things are crazy out there.
