Then, I would try to settle up with the old bank. The fact that your BK protects you from collection activity on the debt, doesn't mean the debt can't hurt you just for existing.

After, then I would attempt to open the account with Banco Popular. If it goes well, I would just hold my breath and try to enjoy having the account.

For a whole year after I opened the Banco Popular account, I was on pins and needles that I would be "found out", etc. It never happened. Maybe I was just paranoid... or just lucky.

To minimize risk, I would only put enough money into the account to handle basic business. For the rest, I would trust only Mattress Savings & Loan of MyFrickingBedroom, you know?
