Thanks so much for answering. So even if he has been sending payments to Asset, he can still stop and ask them to verify the debt? I had read somewhere that sending payment means you are self-validating". As far as "wanting" to pay the debt, we are very tight with money right now. We have a new baby & I'm not working, however he is trying really hard to clean up his report. To the non-knowledgable person (us) seems like paying Asset would be the best thing but if we have a shot at removing the debt all together would be great. I decided to inquire because of all the negative response to Asset Acceptance and their unlawful collecting practices!
