Unfortunately you are in a terrible situation. The in-house collection departments of creditors are often worse to deal with than third parties. If you can try and work this out you should. You would need to pull your credit report and look at the status of your credit report. If your mortgage history is good and citifinancial didn't record the late pays or if you have only one late pay and the rest is clear, you might think of refinancing if you now have a steady job and can do it. If you refinance with another company, you might have better luck.
