'Twas The Day Before Month End

'Twas the day before month end, and all through "the floor,"
Collectors were scrambling, asking widows for more.
The quotas were listed with care on the wall,
In hopes that a great month would be had by all.

Management's nerves are hanging by threads,
As visions of bonuses danced in their heads.
The department is buzzing as the coffee does perk,
We are all settled in for a long day of work.

When across the room, we hear such a clatter!
A promise to pay! That's all that matters.
We all stand up from our chairs like a flash,
A check by phone, it's as good as cash!

And then in a twinkling, we heard on the floor,
"The manager is coming, asking for more!"
As we sat down in our chairs and were turning around,
In walks the manager with a bound.

Dressed to the hilt, from his head to his foot,
We dreaded his words, even subtly put.
A stack of papers he had, gripped in his hand.
We expected the worst, but his actions were grand.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
He passed around the "crack pipe", it was a Holiday perk!
Smiling to himself that we expected some doom,
He turned around quickly and walked out of the room.

He walked towards his office with a song in his head,
Knowing we felt happiness rather than dread.
We heard him exclaim, as he walked out of sight,
"Great month everyone and have a good night!"
