If you write a check knowing that it will not be covered, you probably violated a criminal law in your state. It's probably a misdemeanor but you need to check with the state that the check is written i nto make sure. Even though it may not be a felony, this does not mean that you will not be arrested. Bench warrants can also be issued for misdemeanors if a charge was filed and the police were looking for you. Unfortunately, you may not be able to find out if a charge was filed until you get picked up.

Are you a citizen of a different country now? If you are, maybe a legal name change is in order.
