If this is true, then the tradeline and the judgment for the car is obsolete (over 7 years old) and should be off your report.

Find out the date of the delinquency that caused the repo. Dispute it as obsolete based on that delinquency date with any CRA that is showing it. If you can't find out for sure, use your best guess. As long as the date is in 1996 or earlier, it is OBSOLETE and should be off your report.

Keep in mind that although judgment's are collectable based on the rules of renewal, etc in your state, judgment can only remain on your report for 7 years from the date of entry as shown by the court records.

When you paid the bank off, they should have sent you a satisfaction and release copy. Sometimes creditors don't do this unless you pressure them to do it. But, they are legally required to file the satisfaction and release with the appropriate authority.

Contact the county clerk or whomever is responsible for recording judgments in your area and find out if the satisfaction and release have been recorded. If it hasn't, make sure that it is.

Contact the bank regarding the satisfaction of judgment and release of judgment. Insist that they provide you with a copy of the satisfaction and release for both you and your husband, as necessary.

Either way, both items are over 7 years old and are not supposed to be on your report anymore. If you dispute them as obsolete, they will probably go away without much effort.
