These are scam attorneys.

Unfortunately, if they return the check, they can still come after you. Do they have assets on you to attach--like salaried wages, bank accounts and real property? Move assets if possible. Change banks.

I would send a complaint letter to the FTC and State Bar Association--with a copy of the agreement and returned check.
