If they bought the debt, they are debt collectors. Anyone who attempts to delinquent accounts either for themselves or for another is a debt collector. The Credit Laws on this site has the FDCP and they also have the opinion letters of the FTC. You might want to look them over.

You have bigger problems. W & A I am assuming are the infamous Walfrom and Abrams? who work collection accounts for MBNA and Discover. W & A like to get you to arbitration. No consumer is required to agree to forced arbitration on consumer debt. Why Chat has on her site a letter about arbitration that cites all the cases and in addition www.lawdog.com has information about state laws and statutes and arbitration. So does www.consumerorg.com.

When they issue you a summons demanding arbitration if you haven't been paying them, you will have to send them a request for validation. not a cease and desist. More than likely you will be sued.

With this kind of debt, bankruptcy might be an option.

You are also sueable since you have your own business, and some assets, not much. GA has three years statutes for credit card debt.

I hope your situation improves.
