What state are you in. When was your last payments? Whose name are the accounts in? If you are not in a community property state and the accounts are only in your name, and you have no assets (your name is not on the mortgage and title of a house), then if they sue, there is not much they could collect from you since they couldn't go after your spouse. However they will try and come after you and make your life pretty miserable.

If the cards are in both your names, then they will come after the husband as well. This is something you and your spouse or significant other need to sit down and go over all your assets, how everything is deeded and worded and do research together on the laws and exemptions of your state and ask yourself together what you are willing to put up with.

If you choose not to pay and simply lie low, you will have to be prepared to do that and it might get rough or it might not.

For the record, Asset is a rough collection agency to deal with if you can't pay and stick with your agreement. If you have sent any personal checks into them, you need to switch banks and accounts immediately. Asset does play dirty and hardball and you really have to watch yourself, your credit report.

I hope your situation improves soon and good luck.
