Yes,I did feel your anxiety. I felt it because I have experienced it myself. I am near retirement age and my husband is retired. We could not afford to loose the modest assets we have. Things will cool off after awhile. Just sit tight, let the machine do it's job for you. They will loose interest after awhile. If they can't talk to you, and can't threaten you, honestly, they will give up and more onto easier targets. Truth is that THEY ARE POWERLESS not you. They are not allowed to discuss the debt with anyone but you and maybe your husband, so if you do pick up by mistake (one day I didn't have my glasses on)tell them you are out of town. Don't know when you're coming back. I pretened to be my daughter a couple of times. I got kind of quirky towards the end. Told them I (pretending to be my daughter) charged $100.00 to take messages and they could send a money order to my PO Box. I really did that. It will get easier. Protect your assets and don't worry.
