If they send you a 1099-C that is IT on that debt forever. It means its 'forgiven', 'cancelled', DEAD ! They cannot sell any remaining balance and if the did and some stupid CA comes after you, you send them a copy of the 1099-C and show 'em how stupid they were to buy worthless paper !

I cannot stress this enough - KEEP COPIES OF EVERYTHING haveing to do with any settlments, especially 1099-C's ! Buy one of those small fire proof boxes at Wal-Mart and keep that stuff for eternity !!
