Ok, you said you have no job, no income and trying to go to school. You have no real defenses but you are judgment proof. Are your spouses names on the cards? If not, then the only thing you have to worry about is the house and you might want to check the state exemptions to see if your house can be taken. If it is deeded tenancy in entirety and your spouse is not on it, then you might have some chances.

The second one has a list of exemptions by state. Go through it. Your first priority is to take care of your son and your family. If you get a judgment against you, it is not the worst thing that can happen. Make sure you have your husband listed as primary on the bank account and learn to use the cash and carry.

If bankruptcy is an option, I would consider it after the son is safely out of the surgery and you have an idea of the medical bills on that.
