If they sold the account to Sherman, they by law are not allowed to take payments. It is not their account and it is not their business. So you will have to deal with Shermans. Shermans has lots of complaints on this board and other boards such as www.ripoffreport.com. So please be advised that if you settle with them and get it in writing, Sherman will still more likely settle the remaining portion of your debt to another collection agency. If Sherman has possession of your account (what does your credit report say) they probably contracted with Creditors Exchange in order to collect under a different name. Some collection agencies will use other collection agencies to collect either because they are not licensed in your state to collect or because they have been told to go and get bent and they know that they cannot legally collect from you under their name. Did you send Sherman a cease and desist letter prior to this one? If so, then Sherman probably assigned it. I can't imagine that they would give up on you this soon. They tend to be persistent. Just my opinion. Your credit report should give you the answers. Get the mail version and keep all copies.
